Prophet Yahya
Son of Zakariyya, given wisdom as a child. He was chaste, pious, and dutiful to his parents. The first to bear this name, given by Allah Himself.
A Unique Name and Mission
Yahya was the son of Zakariyya, born as a miraculous answer to his father's prayer. His name was chosen by Allah Himself — unprecedented, as no one before him had borne this name. He was given wisdom, judgment, and compassion from childhood.
“O Yahya, take the Scripture with determination. And We gave him judgment while yet a boy.”
Character and Qualities
The Quran describes Yahya with remarkable attributes: he was compassionate, pure (chaste), dutiful to his parents, and not arrogant or disobedient. He confirmed the word from Allah (i.e., Isa) and was a noble, chaste leader among his people.
“And [We gave him] compassion from Us and purity, and he was God-fearing. And dutiful to his parents, and he was not a disobedient tyrant.”
Peace Upon Him
Allah specifically mentions sending peace upon Yahya at three critical moments: the day he was born, the day he dies, and the day he will be raised alive. These are the same words used for Isa, highlighting Yahya's exalted status.
“And peace be upon him the day he was born and the day he dies and the day he is raised alive.”
