Prophet Ishaq
إسحاقعليه السلام
Son of Ibrahim and Sarah, born miraculously when both parents were elderly. Father of Yaqub and ancestor of many prophets of Bani Israel.
A Miraculous Birth
Ishaq was born to Ibrahim and Sarah in their old age, a miracle announced by the angels who visited Ibrahim on their way to the people of Lut. Sarah laughed in astonishment when given the news, as she was elderly and barren. Allah granted them this child as a reward for their decades of faith and patience.
فَبَشَّرْنَاهَا بِإِسْحَاقَ وَمِن وَرَاءِ إِسْحَاقَ يَعْقُوبَ
“So We gave her good tidings of Ishaq, and after Ishaq, Yaqub.”
A Prophet and Father of Prophets
Ishaq grew up to be a righteous prophet. Through his son Yaqub (also known as Israel), he became the ancestor of the entire line of Israelite prophets, including Musa, Dawud, Sulayman, and Isa. He is consistently mentioned in the Quran alongside his father Ibrahim and son Yaqub as part of a blessed lineage.
وَوَهَبْنَا لَهُ إِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ ۚ كُلًّا هَدَيْنَا
“And We gave him Ishaq and Yaqub — all [of them] We guided.”
