Prophet Ismail
إسماعيلعليه السلام
Son of Ibrahim and Hajar. He helped build the Kaaba and was the ancestor of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Known for his patience and truthfulness.
Left in the Desert
As an infant, Ismail was taken with his mother Hajar to the barren valley of Makkah by Ibrahim, following Allah's command. When Hajar asked Ibrahim if this was Allah's command, and he confirmed, she said, 'Then He will not abandon us.' Alone in the desert, Hajar ran between the hills of Safa and Marwa searching for water, a journey Muslims reenact during Hajj and Umrah.
The Prophet ﷺ narrated the story of Hajar running between Safa and Marwa, saying that is why people walk between them during Hajj.

The Well of Zamzam
Allah caused the spring of Zamzam to gush forth at the feet of the infant Ismail. This water attracted the Jurhum tribe, who settled in the valley with Hajar's permission. The well of Zamzam continues to flow to this day in Makkah, serving millions of pilgrims.
رَّبَّنَا إِنِّي أَسْكَنتُ مِن ذُرِّيَّتِي بِوَادٍ غَيْرِ ذِي زَرْعٍ عِندَ بَيْتِكَ الْمُحَرَّمِ
“Our Lord, I have settled some of my descendants in an uncultivated valley near Your sacred House.”
Willing Sacrifice & Building the Kaaba
When Ibrahim was commanded to sacrifice his son, Ismail's response demonstrated extraordinary faith: 'O my father, do as you are commanded. You will find me, if Allah wills, of the patient.' Later, father and son together raised the foundations of the Kaaba, establishing the spiritual center of Islam.
وَاذْكُرْ فِي الْكِتَابِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ۚ إِنَّهُ كَانَ صَادِقَ الْوَعْدِ وَكَانَ رَسُولًا نَّبِيًّا
“And mention in the Book, Ismail. Indeed, he was true to his promise, and he was a messenger and a prophet.”
